  • The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) (Quincy, MA) will hold its 7th annual Fire Risk & Hazard Assessment Research Application Symposium from July 24-26 at the BWI Airport Marriott in Baltimore, MD. Keynote speaker for the event will be Congressman Curt Weldon (R-PA), who will discuss national security and homeland defense.

  • The Plumbing-Heating-Cooling Contractors — National Association (PHCC) (Falls Church, VA) will accept entries until July 15 for its Plumbing Apprenticeship Contest to be held in Toronto, ON, Canada on Nov. 1, 2002. For more information, visit www.phccweb.org (website).

  • The Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) (Rockville, MD) has set up its 17th student chapter at Eastern Michigan University (Ypsilanti, MI). For more information on the chapter, visit www.easternconstructors.org (website).

  • North American Technician Excellence (NATE) (McLean, VA) is offering a NATE marketing kit for contractors that employ NATE-certified technicians. The kit can be sent via e-mail and contains press release samples, a radio script, and NATE logos, which can be used in advertising. For more information, visit www.natex.org (website).

  • The International Code Council (ICC) (Falls Church, VA) has announced plans to consolidate the evaluation services offered by the Building Officials and Code Administrators International, Inc. (BOCA), International Conference of Building Officials (ICBO), Southern Building Code Congress International, Inc. (SBCCI), and National Evaluation Service, Inc. (NES). The single evaluation plan will go into effect by Jan. 1, 2003.
