The miniature, variable-speed, hermetic, rotary refrigeration compressor utilizes a 24-V sensorless brushless dc motor. It is designed for use with refrigerant HFC-134a, although other refrigerants are also acceptable. The rotary compressor weighs less than 1.5 pounds, is 2.2 inches in diameter, and 3 inches high. It produces over 300 W (1,000 Btuh) of cooling at 130°F condensing and 45° evaporating temperatures. According to the manufacturer, because of its extraordinarily low weight and small size, the compressor can be applied in mobile or portable systems using either battery or vehicle power, and is very suitable for small mobile applications such as in the cooling of electronic components due to its low energy consumption and compactness.
