ATLANTA, GA — The American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) has published a new standard that defines test methods and calculation procedures for rating indirect evaporative coolers. ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 143-2000, “Method of Test for Rating Indirect Evaporative Coolers,” will establish the basis for comparing equipment. According to ASHRAE, no such method of test existed prior to development of the standard.

“The completion of the standard should provide the basis for more consistently rated products and encourage growth of evaporative cooling as a viable technology in the future,” said Robert Acker, chair of the committee that wrote the standard.
