ARI Issues Statistical Profile

The latest edition of the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute’s ARI Statistical Profile provides a comprehensive overview of the HVACR industry. For those who want to track current statistics and trends in the industry, the Statistical Profile combines a range of sources into a single volume.

The publication includes statistical data from both private and government sources. These include ARI, the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA), the Census of Manufacturers and Annual Survey of Manufacturers, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, and housing data from the Bureau of the Census.

Data is provided in both tabular and chart format, ranging from as far back as the 1970s up to the most recent available numbers.

The Statistical Profile provides industry information in several categories:

  • People — This section highlights statistics on employment in the HVACR industry, salaries and wages, and breakouts by SIC classification.

  • Finance — This area indicates the number of manufacturing establishments, capital expenditures, selected operating ratios, value of shipments, and price indexes.

  • Equipment — This section supplies total shipments of unitary air conditioners and air-source heat pumps, shipment-weighted SEERs (seasonal energy efficiency ratios) of this equipment, as well as shipments of gas furnaces, room air conditioners, and large-tonnage liquid chillers.

  • Distribution — This segment covers single-family houses completed with central air conditioning, type of heating system installed, residential air conditioning saturation, air conditioning in mobile homes, and automotive air conditioning.

The Statistical Profile is available on the association’s Web site at www.ari.org and is free for members. Non-members may purchase a copy of the profile for $60.

    Publication date: 09/08/2003
