ARI Attends Launch of New U.S./China Standards Portal

Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) President Woody Sutton met on Sept. 18, 2006, in Washington, D.C., with Pingjun Liu, administrator of the Standards Administration of China (SAC). Sutton, accompanied by ARI staff members Henry Hwong, Julie McCombs, and Jim Walters, met with Liu while both attended ceremonies for the launch of a new Website, www.standardsportal.org.

The Website, developed by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), SAC, and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), is intended to be a resource for those seeking information on U.S. and Chinese standards, certification, and trade information.

Sutton and Liu discussed ARI's and SAC's shared interest in energy efficiency, the presence of ARI members in the Peoples Republic of China, and increasing Chinese participation in ISO Technical Committee 86 (Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning). Each extended an invitation to the other to visit their respective headquarters in the future.
