ARLINGTON, Va. - Combined United States shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps totaled 351,258 units in February 2011, up 36 percent from a revised total of 258,802 units shipped in February 2010, according to figures released by the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).
February U.S. shipments of air conditioners increased 33 percent, to 203,706 units, up from a revised total of 153,282 units shipped in February 2010. U.S. shipments of air-source heat pumps increased 40 percent, to 147,552 units, up from a revised total of 105,520 units shipped in February 2010.
Year-to-date combined shipments of residential central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps increased 19 percent, to 675,285 units, up from a revised total of 569,877 units shipped through February 2010. Year-to-date shipments of central air conditioners increased 16 percent, to 401,122 units, up from a revised total of 347,131 units shipped during the same period in 2010. The year-to-date total for heat pump shipments increased 23 percent, to 274,163 units, up from a revised total of 222,746 units shipped during the same period in 2010.
