April 10, 2003: Congress To Debate Vocational Education Funding

MT. PROSPECT, Ill. — The United States Congress will meet this fall to debate reauthorization or replacement of the Carl D. Perkins Vocational and Technical Education Act, which provides funding for vocational and technical school programs. According to HVAC Excellence, this debate will have a significant impact on HVACR training programs available at public schools, community colleges, and vocational-technical schools.

In March, William Allred, executive director of HVAC Excellence and vice president of the American Technical Educators Association (ATEA), met with Carol D'Amico, Assistant Secretary for Vocational and Adult Education in the U.S. Department of Education. In this meeting, Allred and a group of members from ATEA discussed issues affecting vocational and technical education funding.

D'Amico asked Allred and ATEA to remain in contact with the Office of Vocational and Adult Education and also asked for their participation in the upcoming congressional debate on vocational and technical education.

To participate and provide your input, contact Allred at 800-394-5268 or by e-mail at wallred@hvacexcellence.org.
