Apr. 19, 2002: ASHRAE Publishes Unitary AC Standards

ATLANTA, GA — Two standards related to unitary air conditioners have been reaffirmed and published by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE).

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 127-2001, “Method of Testing for Rating Computer and Data Processing Room Unitary Air Conditioners,” establishes a uniform set of requirements for rating computer and data processing room unitary air conditioners.

ANSI/ASHRAE Standard 128-2001, “Method of Rating Unitary Spot Air Conditioners,” establishes a uniform set of requirements for rating unitary spot air conditioners.

“Both of these standards continue to be widely used since first being published,” said Richard Evans, a member of ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.2, Industrial Air Conditioning, which reviewed the standards. “They are being referenced by industry and the U.S. Department of Energy.”

Standard 127 was modified to include conversion of scientific units from inch-pounds (IP) to International System of Units (SI). Additionally, references in both standards were brought up to date and comments from public reviews were included. According to Evans, the modifications are not considered substantive.

To order a copy of the standards, call 800-527-4723 or go to www.ashrae.org (website).
