The AirX Estimator is a free Web-based tool that allows users to evaluate the energy savings and cost-effectiveness of energy recovery ventilation (ERV) that use the manufacturer’s energy recovery wheels. Users can perform a customized financial and energy model of ERV, including ROI and payback analysis, in minutes. It summarizes line item details of the dynamic effects ERV has on an HVAC system, providing the user with information needed to qualify ERV for the project. The tool requires three user-entered inputs: location, occupied building hours, and cfm of outdoor air. Other variables such as utility rates, HVAC efficiency ratings, and first-cost estimates have default values the user can modify for testing different scenarios. The Estimator then calculates energy savings and financial estimates based on ASHRAE weather bin data.
