SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Airgas Inc. is partnering with Operation Homefront to train and hire 100 veterans over the next 12 months. The company will offer the Airgas “Welding 101” course at multiple office locations across the United States to any veteran with service experience in Iraq or Afghanistan who is interested in exploring a career in welding. Participants receive two-days of classroom instruction and hands-on experience with the tools of the trade.

According to the company, the course is an excellent way to gauge skills and interest as participants decide whether pursuing a certificate in welding is right for them. “Airgas’ ‘Welding 101’ is a significant training opportunity for many wounded warriors who need help finding a lucrative and steady job as they enter the civilian world,” said Amy Palmer, COO of Operation Homefront.

As part of the program, Airgas has pledged $300,000 to Operation Homefront with 70 percent going toward projects to assist wounded soldiers. Airgas associates nationwide will also have the opportunity to become involved in local activities and fundraisers to support the program. Each Airgas regional company and business unit has designated an Operation Homefront point person to manage the relationship between its operations and Operation Homefront chapters in its area.
