ARLINGTON, Va. - The Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI) published a new guideline for content recovery and recycling of cylinders at the end of their useful service life. The document, which was approved by AHRI’s Chemical and Refrigerant Reclaimers Section, is available for free download at www.ahrinet.org.

AHRI Guideline Q-2010, Content Recovery & Proper Recycling of Refrigerant Cylinders is not intended to be an exhaustive listing of all good practices or requirements. Rather, it is intended for the guidance of the industry, including manufacturers, engineers, installers, contractors, and users.

The guideline applies to all U.S Department of Transportation (DOT) nonrefillable and refillable fluorocarbon refrigerant cylinders, as defined in Section 3 of AHRI Guideline Q-2010, having water capacity greater than 2 pounds used to transport refrigerants sold in the United States.

“Publication of this guideline is another example of our industry’s commitment to sustainability and environmental stewardship,” said AHRI president and CEO Stephen Yurek. “We are pleased to once again make an important guideline available free of charge for the benefit of reclaimers, recyclers, and technicians.”

AHRI develops and publishes guidelines and performance rating standards for industry products.
