HOUSTON — When the more than 150,000 estimated golf enthusiasts visited the 2003 Shell Houston Open at Redstone Golf Club here from April 21-27, Aggreko Event Services was the "behind the scenes" company supplying rental power and temperature control equipment for the weeklong PGA Tour event.

Created in 1989 as a division of Aggreko LLC, a provider of rental power, temperature control, and compressed air systems and related services, Houston-based Aggreko Event Services provides integrated rental power and temperature control services for corporate and political functions, festivals, concerts, parties, sporting events, television and movie productions, and other events.

For the 2003 Shell Houston Open, Aggreko's equipment was used for the tournament's hospitality tents, concession stands, and catering operations. The company's depot in Pearland, Texas, provided:

  • Twenty portable diesel power generators that produce enough electricity to power a neighborhood of 600 homes;

  • More than 19 miles of electrical cables, or the equivalent of about 90 holes of golf at Redstone Golf Club;

  • More than 500 20-amp, 110-volt receptacles for the caterers, televisions, and tent lights; and

  • Enough air conditioning to cool 300 homes.

    "As the tournament has grown over the years, so has our need for power and air conditioning," said Trey Jackson, operations director for the Houston Golf Association, the tournament organizer. "While electricity and cold air are not physically visible, these services are crucial to the success of this event. Since 1989, Aggreko has continually exceeded our expectations. Because they are specialists in this field, they allow us to maintain a focus on the tournament, the players, and the fans, and not worry if the tents are too hot, too cold, or if the caterer has power for cooking."

    Aggreko has a history of supporting major sporting events, including multiple Olympic Games, Super Bowls, FIFA World Cups, Goodwill Games, and European Cup football championships.

    "Aggreko is honored to be involved with the 2003 Shell Houston Open and appreciative of the Houston Golf Association's partnership approach," said Rick Strole, Aggreko's Central U.S. event manager. "We are committed to providing the reliable equipment and exceptional service the Houston Golf Association has come to expect."

    Included among the units assigned for the Shell Houston Open were Aggreko's GreenPower™ generators, which incorporate new advances in spill containment, silencing, and emissions, and “super-silenced” HushPac™ portable air conditioners, says the company.
