ACCA Releases e-Book

ARLINGTON, Va. - The Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) released a new e-book, “The Official Contractor’s Guide to Technician Compensation and Overtime,” for its members.

“Every week we respond to dozens of e-mails from members related to payroll and overtime,” said Hilary Atkins, ACCA general counsel. “In fact, we see many of the same questions over and over. Who can be considered ‘exempt’? How do you calculate overtime for different scenarios, like performance bonuses or per-project pay? Is time spent driving a service vehicle to work considered compensable?”

She continued, “While we maintain a library of these frequently asked questions for our members online, we decided it was time to put together a concise summary of the federal rules to help dispel some of the myths floating around the industry.”

The e-book covers the basics of federal law and the Fair Labor Standards Act (FLSA), employee classification (hourly vs. salary), overtime calculation, record-keeping requirements, and answers to frequently asked questions.

“The Official Contractor’s Guide to Technician Compensation and Overtime” is available at no charge to ACCA members and may be downloaded at www.acca.org/guides/.
