April 25, 2013: FTC Will Not Enforce Regional Furnace Standards Labeling
WASHINGTON — The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) has issued a statement noting that, pending resolution of the ongoing regional efficiency standards litigation, it will not enforce its new rules regarding EnergyGuide labels for residential gas furnaces.
These new EnergyGuide labeling rules were developed to work in tandem with the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) enforcement rules covering regional standards. Because the Court of Appeals has not ruled on a proposed settlement agreement of the regional standards lawsuit, and the DOE has already issued a statement that it will not enforce the furnace standard pending resolution of the litigation, the FTC likewise stated that it will not enforce its labeling rules.
