ATLANTA — Many changes are being proposed to the 2013 version of the ASHRAE/IES energy standard, scheduled for publication later this year.

Comments are now being accepted on 26 proposed addenda to ANSI/ASHRAE/IES Standard 90.1-2010, Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings. Public comment on 22 of the proposed changes will be accepted until April 21, three issues will remain open for commenting until May 6, and a final issue will close for comment on April 28.

“As we move toward publication of the 2013 standard, the 90.1 committee is considering many changes to reduce building energy use and cost,” Steve Skalko, chair, said. “The proposed addenda reflect a variety of changes to the standard, many of which are the result of earlier public review comments. These changes contribute to our goal of making the standard 40 to 50 percent more stringent than the 2004 standard.”
