With attention on higher pressure refrigerants, Mueller Streamline Co. has been working with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to conduct a series of performance tests regarding its copper tubing and fittings.

Mueller Streamline Co. has been working with Underwriters Laboratories (UL) to conduct a series of performance tests regarding its copper tube and fittings and some of the newer higher pressure refrigerants.

As a result, Mueller Streamline Co. has announced that its Streamline® copper tube and fittings are UL recognized to 700-psi operating pressures. The announcement is in addition to the 2010 introduction of its Streamline line sets as UL recognized to 700 psi.

According to a statement from the company, “Modern refrigerants, such as R-410A and subcritical CO2, can operate at more than 60 percent higher pressures than the prior generation of refrigerants. Mueller Streamline Co. wanted to provide its customers with unbiased information about the capabilities of Streamline copper tube and fittings when used with these modern refrigerants. Thus, Mueller Streamline Co. turned to UL, one of the world’s most trusted third-party certification organizations and the foremost authority on safety in refrigeration systems.”

“The industry standards have simply not kept pace with the evolution in refrigerants toward higher efficiency ratings and higher pressures,” said Chris Mueller, director of marketing for Mueller Industries’ Copper Systems business. “We found it important to provide the utmost assurance to our customers that these products are sufficiently designed to support the applications.

“The UL recognized to 700-psi rating comes after four years of extensive testing that includes hoop strain, cyclic fatigue, hydrostatic burst, thermal cycling, and more.”

The Streamline copper offering includes refrigeration service coils, nitrogenized ACR, standard and mini-split line sets, and wrought solder-joint pressure fittings.
