Sept. 2, 2008: Green Home Warranty Program Promotes Energy Efficient Products

BUFFALO GROVE, Ill. — Home Warranty of America (HWA), one of the nation’s leading home warranty providers, has announced its new GreenPlus home warranty option, which the company says is the only environmentally-conscious home warranty option in the industry that guarantees replacement of the home’s heating system, water heater, and appliances with an Energy Star-rated product in the event the existing covered unit cannot be repaired.

“Not only is GreenPlus unique in the industry, but it also offers a double benefit for the homeowner,” said David Sobel, vice president of sales at HWA. “Customers get their covered appliance or system replaced under their warranty, saving them the cost of replacement, plus they can save money in the long run by using more efficient products that have proven to help cut costs on energy bills.”

With the GreenPlus option, a covered heating system is replaced with a new 90 percent efficiency model, a covered water heater is replaced with a tankless model that provides hot water on demand, and appliances are replaced with a new Energy Star-rated product. GreenPlus is said to cost $6.25 per month as an option on a 12-month HWA warranty contract.

“We certainly want to do our part to help protect and preserve the environment for future generations, and we also want to help our customers save even more money,” Sobel said. “When you consider the number of replacements that we make in a year, the difference in efficiency improvements can really add up, not only in real dollars saved but also in reduced carbon emissions and environmental impact.”
