ST. LOUIS – A bumper, seven tires, and a muffler were among the debris Murphy Co.’s team of 45 pulled out of the Meramec River as part of Operation Clean Stream. It was Murphy’s first year participating in the event, which is held annually to clean up the Meramec and its tributaries. The company’s assignment was the banks and the river from Blue Springs Ranch near Bourbon, Mo., to the Sappington Bridge. In addition to the big items mentioned above, Murphy also filled 25 bags with cans, clothing, cups, Styrofoam, fiberglass roofing, and a lawn chair.

“Operation Clean Stream was a great experience for our employees and their families,” said Mark Bengard, senior vice president of design-build. “It also really ties into our green efforts. We want to do more than just build green facilities — we also care about cleaning up the environment around us.”
