CHANTILLY, Va. — The third edition of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s (SMACNA’s) guide Seismic Restraint Manual: Guidelines for Mechanical Systems, is now available.

The original manual, which received final approval from the American National Standards Institute (ANSI) in December 2008, is a set of guidelines showing designers and contractors how to determine the correct restraints for sheet metal ducts, piping, and conduit, so they are more likely to remain attached to the building during a seismic event. The 202-page revised version shows how very low- and high-risk areas of the country can be accommodated. Revised to comply with current building codes, the new edition includes a more extensive list of bracing options.
