The state of New York will provide $14.5 million for clean energy projects. Two such projects are a 200-kW natural gas-powered fuel cell to be used at the old Lion House located in the Bronx Zoo and a combined heat and power (CHP) system at New York University.

Several other awarded projects will make use of a flywheel energy storage system, biomass- and biogas-fueled engines, microturbines, a hydropower system, and a tidal power system. The first phase of the Chautauqua Institution project involves installing a microturbine. The exhaust heat from the microturbine will be used to heat and cool several buildings on campus.
