How Customer Feedback Drives Innovation with Malco’s Product Lineup

CEO of Malco Products Rich Benninghoff discusses how feedback from the field helped with the development of C-RHEX, TurboShear, TurboCrimper and more.

For its more than 70 years of operation, Malco Products has put feedback from the field at the forefront of developing new and updated tools.

CEO of Malco Products Rich Benninghoff said newer products in their lineup include the cleanable and reversible C-RHEX hex drivers, the TurboShear power shear, the crimping drill attachment TurboCrimper and more.

“We think there's a lot of ways to collect feedback, turn it into something that's helpful and get it back out into the marketplace for them to use,” said Benninghoff in a 2022 AHR Expo video interview.

Referencing C-RHEX, he said Malco’s design team took several years of gathering feedback to design a premier hex driver.

“That went directly into the concept, and ultimately, the design,” Benninghoff said. “That's a great example of products and ideas that are coming from the field. (We) turn them around into a product that we can commercially manufacture and then send it back out into the field to be used by those trade professionals.”

C-RHEX Kits

C-RHEX Kits.

The first kit includes multiple hex sizes (1/4″ & 5/16″ and 5/16″ & 3/8″) and lengths (2″, 4″ & 6″) of five C-RHEX cleanable, reversible magnetic hex drivers with reliable single-piece strength and an easy-clean magnet. The second kit includes five C-RHEX drivers and both standard and stubby CONNEXT Quick Change Handles that are shock-proof, shatter-proof and fluted to fit any hand. The quick connector mechanism on the handles allows for fast hex driver changes, while the reversible C-RHEX drivers allow for rapid size changes between the two ends.

TurboShear: Double Cut, Pneumatic

TurboShear.

The carbon steel blades of Malco Double-Cut TurboShears remove a narrow spiral scrap from the tool path to produce a clean, straight edge on both sides of the cut. These blades can approach a cut from either end to produce a quality work-piece edge. They can also navigate up to 90° outside profiles of metal roofing panels, or metal ductwork, and are beefy enough to cut through seams. And you can easily disengage Malco Double-Cut Blades from the cutting path or quickly re-engage to continue cutting.

TurboCrimper Drill Attachment

TurboCrimper.

Malco’s TurboCrimper drill attachment makes fast, easy, precise crimps in large or small round duct and pipe. Applications include 24 to 30-gauge (0.71 to 0.41 mm) galvanized steel duct, spiral duct, black stove pipe, or aluminum pipe. The drive shaft inserts into the chuck of a minimum 14.4 Volt cordless or maximum 7 Amp A/C drill. A telescoping clamp adjusts to fit length and width of most drill housings. Set crimper lever in the down position to open gears for easy insertion and removal of metal in the tool face slot. With the lever in up position, the crimping depths are at a factory setting for 26 to 28-gauge (0.56 to 0.48 mm) Galvanized Steel. Back off the lever a stop at a time for lighter metals or readjust the maximum crimp with lever set screws.
