Harris Products Group Offers Aluminum Brazing Training and Education at AHR Expo

It's becoming increasingly important to learn how to repair holes in aluminum coils.

HVACR pros can learn aluminum brazing and test their skills at the Harris Products Group booth during the 2023 AHR Expo. Harris is conducting educational presentations and giving participants the opportunity to use brazing to repair holes in aluminum coils, an increasingly common repair that service technicians need to know how to do in the field.

“We’re offering this training at the show to draw attention to the increasing trend of repairing aluminum coils and return bends in HVAC/R equipment rather than ordering new parts,” said Brian Henderson, National Sales Manager - Wholesale at Harris Products Group. “Shorter manufacturer warranties on aluminum coils are driving this trend, so it’s important that contractors become experts at brazing aluminum.”

Aluminum has replaced copper for refrigerant coils in many instances. Because it’s a thin metal, aluminum can be easily damaged. Most contractors have been trained to braze copper tubes, but brazing aluminum has unique challenges and HVAC/R technicians need to understand the differences.

In addition to the training at the Expo, Harris Products Group has revved up its brazing education programs. The company just released a new video series on brazing and is offering both in-person and online NATE-certified classes. Pros can also access the Harris Braze App which provides information about brazing and soldering, alloy selection guides, and other information to help them succeed.

“With the right brazing skills, contractors and production workers can achieve the best results the first time and avoid having to rework the job,” said Christen Foltz, Trainer and Senior Technical Sales Representative at Harris. “Our training helps technicians to improve their confidence on the job.”

Harris is a long-time supplier to the HVAC/R industry and provides products and training to both contractors and OEMs. The company manufactures everything needed to braze and solder, including alloys, fluxes, torches and torch kits, regulators and other products used daily by techs. Harris also has a portfolio of products to help OEMs produce quality equipment; these products include copper and aluminum headers, distributor assemblies and other complex brazed parts.

Those interested in improving their brazing skills should visit Harris Products Group AHR Expo, Booth #C7443.
