SMACNA contractor wins advocate prize for lobbying efforts

December 11, 2017

A contractor from Long Island, New York, was named SMACNA’s Contractor Legislative Advocate of the Year.

Randy Buchter, president of Anron Inc. in North Babylon, New York, was given the award Oct. 23.

It is the highest legislative award given to a contractor by the Sheet Metal and Air-Conditioning Contractors’ National Association.

“When we looked around the nation and considered all of SMACNA’s legislative, political and industry leaders that have made SMACNA’s top advocates honor roll, Randy Buchter immediately came to mind as the one creating a visible role for local and national SMACNA,” 2016-17 SMACNA President Joseph Lansdell said. “A driving force in the SMACNA of Long Island chapter’s effort to lead on national, state, and local political and legislative issues, Randy has targeted areas important to the Long Island area and New York state. He has been a key player in efforts to reform public contracting payment, pension reform, infrastructure policies, and prevailing wage enforcement legislation from Long Island to Albany to Capitol Hill. A champion for apprenticeship training, workforce enhancement, and safety education, Randy is a strong advocate for tax initiatives boosting industrial, commercial, and institutional energy retrofits.

“For such positive contributions, it makes us proud to present a Waterford Crystal bowl to Randy as this year’s Legislative Contractor of the Year,” Lansdell said.
