Metalcon speaker to discuss drones
Technology is growing in popularity, officials say
The burgeoning popularity of drones in construction will be the focus of a Metalcon session next month in Las Vegas.
Joshua Barnett, president of Drone Dispatch, will present “Where Drones Meet Metal in the Roofing Industry,” during Metalcon, which takes place Oct. 19-20 at the Las Vegas Convention Center.
Drone-mounted cameras have become a favorite tool of many roofing contractors, since they offer the chance to quickly, easily and inexpensively view projects from angles that were previously available only to those with access to airplanes.
“The industry is growing rapidly,” Barnett said. “There is so much we can do with drones, from generic marketing photos to work progression photos and 3-D models. We can take measurements on roofs, create 3-D roof images and keep folks safe by keeping them off roofs.”
Attendees of the session, which will be held twice, should learn a lot, Barnett said.
“There is so much misinformation about what drones do, how they work and what the regulations mean,” he said. “I will discuss how to pick a drone and what steps you need to take to proceed. There is a lack of exposure with drones, and it hasn’t occurred to a lot of folks how drone technology can benefit their businesses.”
