BOMA speaker to discuss sustainability

June 24, 2010
Being “green” can help productivity and may help reduce worker sick time, according to the experts.

Two experts on green building will talk about the advantages of high-performance structures at next week’s Building Owners and Managers Association convention.

Being “green” can help productivity and may help reduce worker sick time, say Norman Miller, vice president of analytics at the CoStar Group, and Pat Garibay, a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design-accredited professional and business development director at Trane.

Miller and Garibay will speak at 3:30 p.m. Sunday at the Long Beach, Calif., convention center.

Miller authored a study commissioned by University of San Diego and CB Richard Ellis on this issue. He examined the productivity of 500 tenants who worked in LEED- or Energy Star-certified buildings. The study found that so-called “healthy” buildings reduce sick time and increase employee productivity.

BOMA’s 2010 convention runs Sunday-Tuesday. Full details are at the event website .
