Friedrich Air Conditioning Co. has launched its new Variable Refrigerant Packaged Heat Pump system, which incorporates make-up air and humidity control.

The VRP system combines variable refrigerant flow and a closet-mounted single-packaged unit, which allows it to be used in hospitality, multifamily and commercial applications.  The system also features a precision inverter compressor, which allows for better performance and noise reduction, company officials said.

“The launch of VRP not only represents a major innovation for Friedrich, but for the entire industry,” said TJ Wheeler, Friedrich’s vice president of marketing and product management. “The variable speed nature of the unit also makes VRP extremely efficient and quiet, while maximizing comfort and indoor air quality.”

In terms of indoor air quality, VRP offers humidity control with onboard sensors that adjust and monitor compressor speeds to enhance dehumidification. The system also automatically adjusts capacity to meet specific cooling needs and delivers efficiencies up to 20 SEER and 13 EER.

“VRP offers strong benefits for the industry that, until this time, simply couldn’t be found in an all-in-one solution,” Wheeler said. “We’re thrilled to be able to bring this innovation to market.”

Friedrich’s VRP was recently named a 2017 AHR Expo Innovation Award finalist in the indoor air quality category. Winners will be recognized during the expo in Las Vegas Jan. 30-Feb 1, 2017.
