Construction suicide prevention group adds members
More groups are joining an effort to reduce the suicide rate in the construction industry.
The Construction Industry Alliance for Suicide Prevention announced that Associated Builders and Contractors, Associated General Contractors of America, Construction Industry CPAs and Consultants, the HVAC construction-related Mechanical Contractors Association of America and National Association of Women in Construction have become part of the alliance.
The group was formed by the Construction Financial Management Association the wake of a Centers for Disease Control and Prevention study that said construction workers are among those at highest risk for suicide. Other industry associations that joined the group included the National Association of Surety Bond Producers.
Stuart Binstock, the CFMA’s president and CEO, said he’s honored to have so many construction groups involved.
“We applaud these organizations for recognizing the significance of the alliance’s mission, and appreciate their efforts to help shape the construction industry through promoting the safety and well-being of their members’ most important asset — human capital,” Binstock said. “CFMA is proud to be at the forefront of this important initiative.
“The organizations mentioned represent a significant portion of the construction industry, but given this initiative is less than a month old we are confident that a number of other construction industry associations will soon join the alliance,” he added.
