White-Rodgers gives HVAC market thermostats to vets

April 22, 2015

Emerson’s White-Rodgers brand is giving 60 of its Sensi wireless HVAC market thermostats to a charity that provides severely injured veterans with accessible housing.

The HVAC construction company made the donation to Homes For Our Troops, which builds houses for veterans who have lost limbs or suffered other severe injuries. The green HVAC thermostats will allow the homeowners to adjust their furnaces and air conditioners from a mobile device.

The thermostats will be installed in charity-sponsored home HVAC construction projects through the rest of the year.

The donation was arranged through the work of Dave Shingleton, a divisional director of distribution sales at White-Rodgers. He met retired Marine Cpl. Neil Frustaglio at the Heating, Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Distributors International’s 2014 annual conference.

“After hearing Neil’s story and how a specially adapted home changed his life, I wanted to do something more,” Shingleton said. “I told him I would get him a Sensi thermostat. Then I thought, why stop there? So I said let’s get all of the new homes taken care of this year.”

Shingleton found an HVAC sales contractor, Meyer Heating & Air Conditioning, which donated the HVAC construction labor to install the units.

“HARDI’s membership continues to show strong support for HFOT,” said Cindy Plummer, president of HARDI’s philanthropic branch, Helping All Live On. “We are deeply proud of Dave Shingleton and all of our HARDI members’ contributions to give our wounded Veterans homes suited to their unique needs.”
