Ecobee thermostat OK'd by Southern California Edison program
The Ecobee Smart Si thermostat with ZigBee Smart Energy Profile has been approved for use with Southern California Edison’s new metering network, the company announced.
Customers will be able to connect the thermostat to their home’s “smart” meter and monitor energy use. The thermostat can be controlled remotely through smartphones, tablets or desktop computers.
Using the thermostat can save homeowners an average of 21 percent on their cooling bills vs. leaving it set to 72°F.
“Our Smart Si thermostat will offer improved energy saving opportunities for SCE customers,” said Ecobee President and CEO Stuart Lombard. “With thermostat and utility companies now working together to advance the smart grid, SCE is one utility provider paving the way.”
