RectorSeal introduces anti-siphoning unit

July 25, 2012
Designed in the United Kingdom, the device is being included free with all RectorSeal-distributed Aspen Pumps.

RectorSeal Corp. has introduced what it says is the HVAC industry’s first anti-siphoning device to eliminate siphoning due to improper condensate pump installations with ductless mini-split air conditioners.

Designed by Aspen Pumps in the United Kingdom, the device is being included free with all RectorSeal-distributed Aspen Pumps. The unit is 2 inches long, made of molded orange plastic and comes with an integral air intake. It is installed in the pump’s quarter-inch-diameter discharge hose.

Its design prevents auto-siphoning and automatic emptying. It also reduces noise and overheating, which is one of the main causes of pump failure, RectorSeal officials say.

"The majority of condensate pump failures, regardless of brand or model, are due to field installation errors typically where an incorrectly routed discharge line creates a siphon," said Sean Holloway, RectorSeal's HVACR national sales manager. "The anti-siphoning device ensures a quiet, effective and long-lasting operation."
