Architectural sheet metal focus in SNIPS November 2019 issue

Several new industry developments are helping trade professionals take a new view at the architectural sheet metal industry. In our November 2019 issue of SNIPS, we dig deeper with the "architects" of these developments to discuss how the industry is changing.

First, is a partnership between SMACNA and the American Institute of Architecture Students (AIAS), which was announced in August, but has been years in the making.

"In addition to increasing the awareness of architects that touch the industry, this program aims to provide architecture students with real-world experiences beyond their traditional education," says AIAS director of partnerships and events, Kimberly Tuttle. "Through this program, students will have a chance to broaden their understanding of AEC relationships, creating better dialogue and working partnerships between future trade professionals."

Next, architectural sheet metal contractor Cass Sheet Metal gives us a bird's eye view from their job site at the historic Book Tower downtown. Glenn Parvin, owner and founder of Cass, has appeared on our cover before to highlight SMACNA's efforts to recruit the next generation of workers. This time, it's all about the work — or rather, the type of work and what it takes to bring it all together.

Cass' portion of the restoration project has since been completed. However, the finished copperwork on the 500-foot high tower is a statement to the varied job options available in the sheet metal industry.
