Metal panels end need to re-roof Kentucky home

Kentucky roof
May 1, 2014

A Neo-Mediterranean-style home in the Louisville, Ky., suburb of Elizabethtown has traded in its asphalt roof for standing-seam panels from Metal Sales Manufacturing Corp.

Described as having the clean lines of a house designed by architect Frank Lloyd Wright with the added flourish of Spanish influences, it has a taupe-colored exterior with dark bronze accents.

Even though they loved the house, the homeowners were frustrated with the asphalt shingles on the roof. They wanted something more durable — and sustainable. The family has paid to replace the roof twice in less than a decade.

The decided on panels from Metal Sales.

“We chose a metal roof because of its longevity and low maintenance,” said homeowner Roy Keith. “We are very pleased with the outcome. In addition to the roof’s durability, its look is exactly what we were hoping for.”

Typically, a metal roof will last 40 to 50 years with little need for maintenance, the company says. Steel makes for a lightweight, but strong, roofing material. The Keiths’ home has 110 squares of Metal Sales’ 24-gauge, 16-inch-wide vertical seam panels with a Kynar 500 finish in a dark bronze color that matches the home’s trim.

And unlike asphalt shingles, which typically end up in a landfill, the metal panels incorporate a high percentage of recycled content. And the finished panels are fully recyclable.

“This residential reroof project went very well thanks to Metal Sales’ assistance,” said Mark Nett, CEO/owner of Nett Construction LLC, which served as installer and specifier for the project. “You always encounter unexpected challenges on a project, and whenever we did with the Elizabethtown home, we called on our local Metal Sales representative. They offered us advice, provided their expertise and worked through challenges with us every step of the way.”
