Wednesday, Jan. 25, 2006: Danfoss Ball Valve Guarantees Minimal Leakage

CHICAGO - Danfoss is introducing a new type of GBC ball valve that guarantees leakage less than 0.04 ounces per year, states the manufacturer. Each ball valve is helium leak tested at the factory to ensure that customers receive a valve with the least possible leak potential. The valves also offer minimum pressure drop and full bi-directional flow to eliminate concerns about valve orientation.

Danfoss utilizes laser welding, which produces the new slim ball valve body. Brass-to-brass laser welding has a number of advantages, including lighter valves because less brass is needed, and less likelihood of damage to sensitive valve internals because laser welding requires less heat input than plasma welding.

"Because it's a lot slimmer, this valve is very appealing as a replacement valve, where technicians are working in very tight spaces," said Jeffrey Douglas, vice president, aftermarket of Danfoss North America. "And, the ultra-low leak potential offers a secure feeling other valves just don't provide."

The GBC valve seat of specially formed Teflon® helps ensure maximum tightness in the closed position. The screw-on stem cap also has a Teflon seal. The valves have a burst-proof spindle and working pressure of 650 psig (test pressure 940 psig), making them suitable for all fluorinated refrigerants, including R-410A.
