VRTX Wins Going Green Award

SCHERTZ, Texas - VRTX Technologies, a water treatment company specializing in chemical-free treatment for cooling towers and evaporative condensers, has been awarded the first-ever Going Green Award in the innovation category from the San Antonio Business Journal.

VRTX is one of 16 companies located in San Antonio being recognized for its green efforts. In the innovation category, VRTX was awarded for its ability to conserve over one billion gallons of water a year and eliminate potentially harmful chemicals in cooling towers and evaporative condensers in over 500 worldwide installations.

The San Antonio Business Journal established the Going Green Awards this year to spotlight San Antonio’s leading eco-friendly companies. Categories included public and private sector, entrepreneur, innovation, educational program, commercial builder and retail to name a few. CPS Energy, Sea World of San Antonio, and San Antonio Water Systems were also named winners in other categories. The awards will be presented during a luncheon on Oct. 22.

“It is an honor for VRTX to be recognized by the San Antonio Business Journal as a leader in green technology in San Antonio,” said David Nicholas, VRTX’s chief executive officer. “We hope this award will encourage more sustainable practices in cooling towers in the area.”

The VRTX water treatment system relies on kinetic energy, hydrodynamic cavitation, and chemical equilibrium to control scale, corrosion, and bio-fouling without the hazards of chemical treatment. The VRTX system is also said to minimize corrosion and microbiological growth, reduce system operating costs, and conserve water and energy. Studies indicate that a typical VRTX-treated cooling tower system could see annual potable water savings of nearly 1 million gallons.
