A line of refrigerant-cooled, unit-mounted Adaptive Frequency™ drives (AFD) is available for the CenTraVac® centrifugal water chillers. The AFD controls the voltage and speed of a chiller compressor based on the cooling needs of the building. The feed-forward Adaptive Control™ system foresees load changes and quickly adapts to the operating ranges and specific characteristics of the chiller before the leaving temperature of the chiller is affected. According to the manufacturer, this results in better efficiency and stability at reduced or variable flow. The integrated active rectifier ensures less than 5 percent current harmonic distortion back to the user's power grid, as measured at the drive input, the company says. The factory-mounted AFD ships fully assembled, wired, and tested.
