These dehumidifiers pose no Y2K threat, says mfr

AMESBURY, Miss. — Double zero may mean double trouble for many computers and other microprocessor-controlled systems when January 1, 2000 arrives, but Cargocaire says no problems will occur with its desiccant dehumidification equipment.

The “double trouble” comes for microprocessor-controlled devices — such as computers — with a clock function that cannot differentiate between the year 2000 and the year 1900.

“The programmable logic controller (PLC) in Cargocaire dehumidifiers does not use clock-sensitive microprocessors,” said Gil Rimbaud, the company’s technical service administrator. Non-calendar-based timers are used.
