SMACNA Names Dwight Silvia as Contractor of the Year

PALM DESERT, Calif. - Dwight Silvia, CEO of D.D.S. Industries Inc., Somerset, Mass., received the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors’ National Association’s (SMACNA) Contractor of the Year award at the association’s 66th annual convention. “Dwight is a dynamic and conscientious representative for SMACNA at every level. His enthusiasm and commitment for this organization set an example for others to follow,” said John Ilten, president of SMACNA.

“Stepping outside the typical association structure of committees and task forces, Dwight personally spearheaded a fundraising effort to assist his fellow contractors who suffered business losses from a flood of catastrophic magnitude. He epitomizes the SMACNA tradition of contractors helping contractors.”

Not only is he a charter member of the political action committee’s (PAC’s) top donor group, the Political Pacesetters Council, he is a long-standing member of the Congressional Insiders Club. Active in educating Congress on the issues of importance to HVAC firms nationwide, Silvia is a constant figure at SMACNA legislative and political events.

Silvia does not limit his activism to the legislative arena; his service extends to every part of the industry and to fellow contractors. Currently, he is a member of the International Training Institute Apprentice Contest and the Director Nominating Committees. He actively served SMACNA on the board of directors from 2004-2008. His involvement in SMACNA also includes membership on the HVAC Dust Design Task Force and the Sheet Metal Occupational Health Institute Trust.

In recognition of a lifetime of service and dedication to the sheet metal industry, Silvia was inducted into the organization’s College of Fellows in 2008.
