RUEIL-MALMAISON, France - Schneider Electric has announced a $20 million performance contract with North Carolina State University to provide sustainable, clean energy projects in 1.6 million square feet of building space across 13 campus facilities. The contract consists of facility improvements, equipment upgrades, and energy efficiency techniques to improve energy use, operations, reliability, and comfort.

“At NC State University, we’re committed to building a sustainable campus, an effort that drives energy efficiency while offering a state-of-the-art learning environment for students,” said Kevin McNaughton, associate vice chancellor for facilities, North Carolina State University. “Through performance contracting, we’re able to take on these projects immediately without incurring cost to the taxpayer or the students. We are confident this strategy will reduce continuing costs, provide for better facilities to support education and research, and substantially reduce our carbon footprint.”

Schneider Electric will implement new or enhanced building digital controls for greater efficiency and comfort, replacement of major building mechanical systems, lighting controls with occupancy sensors to improve lighting schemes, and water conservation fixtures. In addition, Schneider Electric is implementing energy management solutions for monitoring HVAC systems, and new utility meters for better real-time tracking of energy usage. As part of phase one, a Schneider Electric partner firm has completed installation of a solar-thermal system on the roof of the NC State University campus gym.
