RSES Offers ACCA Standards

DES PLAINES, Ill. - The Refrigeration Service Engineers Society (RSES) partnered with the Air Conditioning Contractors of America (ACCA) to offer American National Standards Institute (ANSI)-recognized standards to its members. The two standards include ANSI/ACCA 5 QI – 2007 (HVAC Quality Installation Specification) and ANSI/ACCA 9 QIVP – 2009 (HVAC Quality Installation Verification Protocols).

Mark Lowry, RSES executive vice president, said, “As more standards are written, and increasingly referenced within regulations and legislation, our members need to stay informed of what is expected of them. Partnerships such as this with ACCA, whereby RSES members can access established industry standards at no additional cost, are an important component of our commitment to provide value.”

According to ACCA, the HVACR Quality Installation Specification establishes minimum criteria for the proper installation, maintenance, and servicing of HVAC systems to meet occupant demands for energy efficiency, comfort, and IAQ in residential and commercial applications. It addresses the equipment, equipment installation, duct distribution, system documentation, and owner education aspects and can be utilized by contractors, equipment manufacturers, HVAC trainers, utilities, and building owners and operators.

The HVAC Quality Installation Verification Protocols establish the requirements to verify the installation of HVAC systems are in accordance with the specification standard. It identifies the sampling, evaluation, and documentation procedures to be utilized by contractors, verifiers, and administrators. The standard also defines the primary roles and responsibilities for those involved in the verification process.

Printed copies of the quality installation standards are available from ACCA at a cost of $32.95 each. However, RSES members may download both standards from www.rses.org at no charge by logging into the site and selecting “My RSES Home Page” and “ANSI/ACCA Q Standards” under the “My RSES” section.
