Paper Cites How Blends Change

The Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) has published a white paper on multicomponent refrigerants titled “Composition Changes During Refrigerant Transfer and Equipment Charging.”

The paper provides information for repackagers, contractors, and technicians on the proper handling and repackaging of these refrigerants.

Developed by ARI’s Chemicals Section, the paper provides general information on the fractionation of refrigerant blends and the situation under which it will occur. The paper also provides guidance on how to transfer multicomponent refrigerants to minimize fractionation.

These handling issues are also important to oem’s because refrigerant charged into their equipment must be within specified tolerances.

Copies of the white paper are available free on ARI’s Web site at www.ari.org, or may be ordered by contacting ARI at 4301 N. Fairfax Drive, Suite 425, Arlington, VA 22203.
