Obituary: Thomas Michael Veloz

VALENCIA, Calif. - Thomas Michael Veloz, 69, chairman and CEO of UltraViolet Devices Inc. (UVDI), died Sept. 13, 2006. He was born on July 19, 1937, in New York, and moved to California with his family in the 1950s, where he attended high school and later the University of Southern California.

Veloz was the former owner of Aquafine Corp. and the founder of UVDI. He also was a noted philanthropist who supported the Santa Clarita Valley (SCV) Boys and Girls Club, Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital, College of the Canyons, American Red Cross, and the United Way, and was the founding father of the Sheila R. "Tom was my mentor, my coach, and my friend," said Dan Goetz, UVDI president and CEO.

He is survived by his wife, Janet; sons David and Peter; first wife Roberta; brothers Robert and Frank; stepdaughters Sheryl Regan and Janine Jones; and 10 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his second wife, Sheila.

The family has requested that donations be made to the Sheila R. Veloz Breast Imaging Center care of the Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Health Foundation, 23845 McBean Parkway, Valencia, CA 91355. A sympathy card will be mailed to the family when a memorial gift is made, said the hospital.
