NAPLES, Fla. — Gerald Egan, former president and CEO of the privately held Egan Companies, New Hope, Minn., died of cancer earlier this year at his home here. He was 71.

He joined his father, Joseph, and two brothers, William and Costney, in the family business, Egan & Sons, in 1955 after having served in the U.S. Air Force. Mr. Egan also was president of the Mechanical Contractors Association of America (MCAA) in 1994. He was instrumental in establishing the Egan Dunwoody Scholarship fund to support the training of men and women in the mechanical and electrical trades.
