Jeff Files of East Coast Metal Distributors Inc. of Durham is one of eight board members. The foundation was established to "provide small grants for students engaged in short term projects involving the marketing, movement, storage, and sale of products used in the heating and air-conditioning industry," according to a statement from the foundation.

The foundation was named in memory of James Wilder, a long time industry professional who was affiliated with the Northamerican Heating, Refrigeration & Air-conditioning Wholesalers (NHRAW) for 30 years. He retired as NHRAW’s chief paid executive in 2000 and passed away later that year.

The board is expected to award the first grants in June.
