CHICAGO - The importance of HVACR training and education in this day and age will be the topic of discussion at a free educational seminar to be hosted by The NEWS at the 2009 International Air-Conditioning, Heating, Refrigerating Expo in Chicago.

“HVACR Training and Education: Important Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” is the title of the session, to be held 8:30-9:30 a.m. on January 27 in room S101b at the McCormick Place, South Hall. Five panelists will be on hand to provide information concerning the education and training opportunities that are made available through their respective association and/or group. Panelists include Mark Lowry, executive vice president, RSES; Gerry Kennedy, COO of PHCC Education Foundation; Glenn Hourahan, vice president, Research and Technology Division, ACCA; Warren Lupson, director of education, AHRI; and Rex Boynton, president, North American Technician Excellence (NATE). NEWS senior editor Mark Skaer will be the moderator.

“As a contractor, if you are looking to improve your business, education and training needs to be in the mix,” said Skaer. “For some reason, if you are not offering training or are failing to participate in educational courses, chances are you are losing out to the competition. Remember: Wealth is power. So, if you want to gain a few steps on the competition, find out how education can make it happen.”

A few winners in The NEWS’ 2008 Best Contractor to Work For contest are also expected to be on hand to provide their respective insight on the subject. Each winning contractor is a firm believer in providing education and training for their respective employees.
