New Officers Announced at MSCA Annual Meeting

December 7, 2009

BONITA SPRINGS, Florida -New officers of the Mechanical Service Contractors of America (MSCA) board of managers were introduced on the final day of the MSCA 24th Annual Educational Conference at the Hyatt Regency Coconut Point.

David J. Bavisotto was named chairman of the MSCA board of managers; Thom Brazel, vice chairman; and Arnold “Woody” Woodall, treasurer. New board members, Scott Berger and Steve Harvey, will replace outgoing board members Russell J. Borst and Joe Urban.

“This was a challenging year,” said Jeff McCoy, vice president of Mechanical Inc., Freeport, Ill., outgoing MSCA chairman. “We have focused on finding ways to fortify our members for the long haul,” he said. “Mechanical service contractors are skilled, by nature, in looking for ways to nurture and create sustainable systems. MSCA’s leadership in green maintenance, sustainable answers, and efficient use of energy and fuel, is showing the way. I’m proud to turn this leadership over to Dave Bavisotto for the coming year.”

“The coming year will give us an opportunity to continue to offer initiatives that are crucial to the growth of our member companies, like MSCA STAR and GreenStar,” said Dave Bavisotto. “We are on the cutting edge of new technologies that are changing the way we do our jobs. Our plans are to keep members current, offering ever-increasing support for success.”

Bavisotto, LEED AP, is the service sales manager for MSCA STAR and GreenStar contractor Illingworth-Kilgust Mechanical in Milwaukee, Wis. Prior to joining Illingworth in 2007, Bavisotto worked as the service department manager for J. F. Ahern Co., Menomonee Falls, Wis., where he was instrumental in establishing a mechanical service operation. A member and former chairman of MSCA’s national marketing committee, Bavisotto is also on the HVAC advisory board at Ferris State University, Big Rapids, Mich.

Vice Chairman Thom Brazel, LEED AP, has been an MSCA board member since 2002. He is general manager of west coast operations for Hill York Service Corp., Sarasota, Fla. Prior to joining Hill York in 2005, Brazel created two McClure Company branch offices in State College and Williamsport, Pa.

New Treasurer Woody Woodall is director of business development for W.E. Bowers in Beltsville, Md. He started his career as an apprentice in Steamfitters Local 602 of the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada (UA) and has worked as a service technician, installation mechanic, dispatcher, project manager, estimator, service manager, salesman, director of operations, and director of business development. Woodall is the instructor of MSCA’s popular HVAC 101 program.

New board member Scott Berger, LEED AP, is the president of MSCA STAR and GreenStar contractor Arista Air Conditioning Corp. in Long Island City, N.Y.

He is the treasurer and a trustee for the Mechanical Contracting Education & Research Foundation and serves on the MSCA Education Committee, Mechanical Contractors Association of America Advanced Leadership Institute and Green Coordinating Committee, as well as being an active member with the United States Green Building Council.
