Jimmy G. Abernathy, Middle Tennessee Chapter, Nashville, received the Rising Star Award. This award recognizes a new RSES member (with five years or less in RSES) for his contribution to the society. The award is endowed by the DuPont Corp.

Among those honored with the V. V. Solomon Award for educators/teachers was Robert Hill, also of the Middle Tennessee Chapter. He was one of three individuals cited for educational excellence in the award endowed by Alco Controls (now called Flow Controls).
