The company now offers variable frequency drives (vfd) as a factory-installed option on all single- and dual-compressor centrifugal chillers. Available on machines sized from 50 to 2,000 tons, a vfd improves chiller efficiency. According to the company, a dual-compressor chiller equipped with a vfd is the most efficient chiller on the market today. A 500-ton chiller with an integrated part-load value (IPLV) of .505 improves to .365 with the addition of a vfd; a 500-ton dual-compressor chiller with an IPLV of .403 improves to .337 with a vfd, the manufacturer says.
