MCAA Announces 2004 Student Competition

ROCKVILLE, Md. - The Mechanical Contractors Association of America Inc. (MCAA) announced project details, rules, and guidelines for its 2004 Student Chapter Competition during the Student Chapter Summit in La Crosse, Wis.

Jack Wilhelmi of Waldinger Corp. in Omaha, Neb., and chairman of the Career Development Committee, which oversees the competition, presented all the particulars. The project is a 35,000-square-foot dramatic arts building that will be built on a college campus in Denver. Site preparation, extension of utility services from the existing central utilities plant, and a complete interior and exterior plumbing system are required for this project. Issues to be considered involve connections to the sewer systems and water service lines. During the months of July and August, access to the construction site will be restricted by a Grand Prix car race.

The project, once again, was presented to MCAA by the American Society of Heating, Refrigerating, and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE). ASHRAE used the project for its student competition earlier this year. The winning submission, prepared by engineering students at Pennsylvania State University, was among the materials supplied to MCAA student chapters.

Members of the Career Development Committee will answer requests for information (RFIs), and all answers will be supplied to all chapters participating in the competition. The deadline for RFIs is Nov. 15. The deadline for submission of written proposals is Dec. 15.
