March 6, 2009: Lochinvar Boiler to be Featured on ‘This Old House'

LEBANON, Tenn. - Lochinvar® Corp. has announced that its KNIGHT® residential condensing heating boiler will make a national television appearance on an upcoming episode of “This Old House.” The episode, which is scheduled to air for the first time in some markets on Thursday, March 12, documents a portion of the renovation of a neglected 1904 Renaissance Revival brownstone in Brooklyn, N.Y., and includes the redesign of the home’s boiler room. To determine the air date and local listings in various regions of the country, visit www.pbs.org and search for episode #2824.

This season, the show’s home improvement experts are converting a 104-year-old rowhouse in Brooklyn’s historic Prospect Heights neighborhood from a nine-room boarding house to a three-family home, while preserving and restoring period detail wherever possible. In this particular episode, they choose to install two KNIGHT boilers to efficiently provide heat for the home’s cast iron radiators, radiant floor heating, and domestic hot water. In addition to its high efficiency and ability to keep heating costs to a minimum, the KNIGHT boiler also provides 5:1 turndown, allowing it to generate the precise amount of heat for consistent indoor comfort based on the outdoor temperature, says Lochinvar.

“All of us at Lochinvar are very excited that the KNIGHT was chosen to be part of this renovation project on ‘This Old House,’” said Jeff Vallett, executive vice president. “With its innovative design and unparalleled energy efficiency, the KNIGHT is a perfect fit for a show that features high quality craftsmanship and the latest in technology.”

According to the company, the Energy Star-qualified KNIGHT boiler provides up to 98 percent efficiency. Engineered with Lochinvar’s SMART SYSTEM™ control, the boiler’s control and monitoring functions are said to be easy to understand and use. The two-line, 16-character LCD display uses words instead of potentially confusing codes to communicate with the technician. Also, the sealed-combustion direct-vent design of the boiler allows flexibility for placement within a building, permitting air intake and exhaust runs up to 100 equivalent feet using PVC or CPVC pipe.
