ARLINGTON, Va. - United States factory shipments of residential cooling and heating equipment for January 2008 look very similar to the totals for the same month a year ago, with a slight rise reported this year for central air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, and gas warm air furnaces, according to the Air-Conditioning, Heating, and Refrigeration Institute (AHRI).

On Jan. 1, 2008, the Air-Conditioning and Refrigeration Institute (ARI) and the Gas Appliance Manufacturers Association (GAMA) merged to become AHRI. The new association, until further notice, will continue to release shipment data that historically have been provided by these organizations. Each month, AHRI will release the latest available shipment data for central air conditioners, air-source heat pumps, warm air furnaces, water heaters, vent-free room heaters, and vent-free gas hearth products.

AHRI is in the process of combining its historical public data on one Website to be located at www.ahrinet.org, but until that work is completed, this information will continue to be available at its current locations on www.ari.org and www.gamanet.org.

Central Air Conditioners and Air-Source Heat Pumps: Combined U.S. factory shipments of central air conditioners and air-source heat pumps for January totaled 323,072, a 1 percent drop compared with January 2007 shipments.
